With only 20 mins/day
Week 1: Kicking off strong
Cover all the bases quickly. In the first week, you’ll map your current methods, learn the fundamental components of an efficient learning system, and connect with our coaching team in your first live lecture.
The first stepsComplete a diagnostic assessment to see how you score along four core dimensions of learning: deep processing, active learning system, revision methods, and mindset. Once you’ve uncovered your strengths and weaknesses, learn about the fundamentals of memory, encoding and retrieval practice.
Setting up for successDr Justin walks you through how you can create a system of rapid skill improvement. Learn about the most important rules for time management, task prioritisation, and reducing procrastination. We teach you how to assess and track your skill level accurately and identify the best next step to improve.
Fill your toolkitEquip yourself with a full suite of techniques for each part of your learning system. These techniques are easy to learn and give immediate results, while setting you up with the foundational skills to build on later. Some things will be familiar and many things will be new!
Weeks 2 to 6: Learning to optimise
In the following weeks, you’ll consolidate and deepen the skills you learned previously. Learn how to correctly identify learning difficulties and inefficiencies and how to problem solve in different contexts and for diverse needs. In this phase, there should no longer be any weaknesses in your learning ability.
Experiential learning and problem solvingPractice doesn’t make perfect; perfect practice makes perfect. Dr Justin explains how you can avoid making the same mistake twice. Apply your techniques to your learning material and learn how to make each study session more efficient than the last. The lessons from this phase improve your ability to grow by folds!
Interleaving and deepening your skillsBy applying your techniques to a diverse range of contexts, you’ll learn how you can change parts of the technique to create different effects. Gain more control over the quality of your memory and depth of understanding, even when resources and environments aren’t ideal. These skills are crucial for the next phase of skill development.
Weeks 6 to 12: Retraining your brain
With a solid foundation of effective learning skills, we’re ready to do the hard part. In this phase, we’ll introduce a series of advanced techniques that transform how your brain habitually processes information. Over the following weeks, we’ll focus on skills that prime your brain for efficient learning.
Making cognitively-optimal adjustmentsNot all changes to learning methods are helpful. Dr Justin teaches you how to combine and adapt your current learning system to prime your brain even further for higher-order learning.
Using inquiry-based learning for scaffoldingDr Justin teaches his unique, self-regulated version of inquiry-based learning that trains your brain to find learning large or complex topics easier, more natural and even more fun!
Applying order controlAs a self-regulated learner, Dr Justin teaches how to strategically rearrange new information to make it easier for your brain to process and retain. Combine all of your existing techniques to break through into the territory of advanced self-regulation.
Advance your self-managementLearn about cognitive biases and biological tendencies to upgrade your time management, prioritisation, focus management, and anti-procrastination strategies. Dr Justin teaches about the relationship between motivation, burn-out, and behaviour so you can take a science-based approach to staying optimum, for good.
Weeks 12 to 20: Mastery
In this phase, Dr Justin trains you in the careful steps to enter the most elite zone of learning efficiency. Learn more complex and nuanced techniques for self-regulated higher-order learning that push you far ahead of the crowd. Many learners will choose to delay this phase to make sure they are comfortable with the previous level of skills first.
Advanced self-regulation for higher-order learning
Dr Justin introduces composite techniques and skills based on your mastery of the previous skills. Learn to be resilient against poor teaching, confusing resources, unsupportive learning environments, and boring topics to consistently perform at your cognitive optimum.
Advanced mindsets for growth
Learn how you can train yourself to embrace growth mindsets under heavy pressure. Dr Justin introduces the skills he has taught to competitive athletes and top 0.1% performers to push your personal skills development beyond what most people can tolerate.
Tailoring retrieval for any assessment
Blazing-fast encoding isn’t enough sometimes. Learn how to use advanced variations of interleaved retrieval practice to find gaps and push knowledge mastery to the highest level in the shortest time. No matter how your knowledge is assessed, these techniques have you covered.
Weeks 20+: New challenges

In this phase, you will refine your skills as you apply them to try and reach higher and higher goals. Learn to spot the cracks and adapt seamlessly.

Our program is suitable for learners aged 13 and over. Our oldest members are 80+ years young! It is designed for students in secondary and tertiary education, as well as for professionals taking courses, certifying, or upskilling to meet industry needs.

Our program is designed to accommodate busy schedules. In total, you only need 20 minutes per day (or 2 to 3 hours per week) to make considerable progress. We recommend no more than 10 hours per week to prevent overload.
Note that we are specifically referring to theory time, not practice time. Although you only need 2 or 3 hours per week to learn new theory and techniques through our lessons, you will still need to spend time practising the skills. We recommend that you practise new skills for at least 5 to 10 hours per week (or more).
However, we do not consider practice time as additional time. This is because most people are already spending time learning, and you will be replacing and upgrading your current techniques.
For example, if you are currently studying 20 hours per week using your current methods, you may spend 1 hour learning a new technique. Rather than adding an extra 5 hours of practice for this new technique, you would study the same 20 hours but simply upgrade and replace some of your current techniques with the new one.
In this way, you study the same number of hours per week, but the techniques you use during this time evolve and are gradually upgraded. Over time, we expect your hours per week would reduce as you become more efficient.
Although it takes several months to "master" all of the techniques we teach, you should notice improvements within the first 1 to 2 weeks. Your rate of improvement depends on:
- Your baseline: beginner learners often improve more slowly in the first 1 to 2 weeks.
- Your level of practice: the more you practice your skills, the more opportunities you have to improve.
- Your diligence to guidelines: we teach you very specific ways to practice and reflect on mistakes. Following our guidelines strictly tends to result in the smoothest and most efficient development.
If you follow the program as instructed, you can expect to notice the following improvements within the first 2 weeks:
- Metacognition (your insight into your learning methods)
- Engagement with learning
- Depth of understanding after studying
You can expect to notice the following improvements after 3 to 6 weeks (depending on your baseline level):
- Retention is longer
- Time spent studying to achieve the same result reduces
These improvements should continue on a weekly basis. After approximately 12 weeks, most people find that their progress slows. Changes at this stage may be noticeable every two weeks.
The vast majority of our learners report that their overall efficiency* has improved by at least 30% after 4 weeks.
*Efficiency = retention of knowledge x level of desired mastery / total time spent studying
In order to apply your skills and practice new techniques, you will need some form of learning material.
If you are studying in a formal curriculum but are currently on break: we recommend that you start now. It is better to learn the skills now so that you don't sacrifice anything during the semester or course when it matters. You can practice by using textbooks, copies of slides and resources if you have access to them, and learning objectives. Even if what you are studying is not 100% accurate to the curriculum, it will still be generally relevant, giving you an advantage. More importantly, you will achieve the major goal of upskilling your learning methods.
If you are not studying in a formal curriculum: you may choose to either wait until you have access to some learning material you can practice with or you can use the material we provide in the program. To help learners in your situation, we have created an extensive set of learning materials on the topics of learning science that you can use in the meantime to practise your skills.
